About the Artwork
My Abdulmari Imao's homage composition is full with symbolic imagery, including fanciful clouds, floating islands, and a bright sun that brings life and warmth to the picture. These components create a bizarre setting where fantasy and reality interact. The substance of the painting's theme is expressed in large part through color. The creature's warm tones of gold, red, and yellow represent life, vitality, and plenty, while the vivid blues of the sky and ocean convey depth and peace. The sense of "bounty" a bountiful offering of nature's beauty, creativity, and possibility is reinforced by these opposing tones taken together. Bounty encourages viewers to a fluid visual journey by the subtle swirling patterns that highlight rhythm and continuity throughout the sky and water. Below, the work's material richness is highlighted by textured wave shapes created from coiled materials that add a tactile dimension and combine painting and sculptural workmanship.
